Platform Update: Migration to Akamai 

This article addresses all Dacast clients using our services for live streaming. We strongly advise you to read this article if you don’t want to lose your ability to stream.

We would like to inform you about an important update regarding our platform’s streaming and video hosting services. Due to recent changes at Edgio, including their restructuring under Chapter 11, we have decided to transition our clients from Edgio’s Content Delivery Network (CDN) to Akamai.

Akamai is widely recognized as the global leader in CDN technology, with the most Points of Presence (PoPs) and excellent overall network performance. This migration aims to enhance the quality and reliability of video streaming services, ensuring faster content delivery and a more consistent experience for your viewers.

Why this Change?

Recently, Edgio has begun a restructuring process under Chapter 11, which you can read more about here. In light of this, we have made the proactive decision to migrate to Akamai. 

Akamai’s CDN is renowned for its performance and reliability, and with their extensive network, you’ll experience improved video delivery and minimal buffering, even for large audiences. Whether your viewers are local or global, Akamai ensures they receive a smooth, high-quality streaming experience.

What Does This Mean for You?

To keep your channels active, there are a few important updates you’ll need to be aware of:

1. New RTMP Ingestion Points
One of the key technical improvements involves updating the ingestion points for your live streams. These new RTMP URLs and credentials will allow you to harness the full power of Akamai’s CDN and optimize your stream delivery. It’s a simple change. You can find the new ingestion URLs and credentials in the back-office of your account. All you need to do is update the settings in your encoder to reflect these new details.

2. Video Migration
Any videos you’ve already uploaded on our platform will be migrated automatically. You won’t need to take any action – our team is handling the entire migration process for your video library. This ensures that your existing content will continue to be available to your audience without any interruptions.
