It is not always necessary to buy Wirecast or another encoder to use the AAC stream format to live stream on your website.
If you have a Mac, AAC is already built-in and ready for use with Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder. However, if you are on a PC, then you must buy a AAC codec for $180.
Otherwise, encoders like Wirecast offer the best solution if you want the ability to broadcast using the AAC audio codec. Wirecast has a free trial for their encoder as well, allowing you to sample what your live streaming will be like using AAC.
