Audio on Dacast
Dacast is more geared towards video streaming, but it is possible to set up live streaming and on-demand audio streaming, as well. The Dacast platform enables you to create audio live streams and upload audio to the platform.
Here we will show you the different methods by which you can use your audio files for live streaming and on-demand content.
Audio Live streaming
Click on the live stream menu and create a live stream.
We recommend choosing the standard 1080p channel. Next, click on the Create button.
You will then be redirected to the General tab for the live stream content. Automatically the encoder setup page will be displayed right away. The reason is like video files and live camera feeds, for your “live” streaming, the audio file can be and should be uploaded onto the encoder of your choosing.
Now, with the RTMP encoder setup Dacast provides, all you need to do is upload the audio file onto the encoder, as a media file. Then proceed back to the Dacast encoder setup, wherein you can now copy and paste the needed encoder credentials in order for your encoder to connect to the Dacast platform.
Once connected to Dacast you may now start live streaming your audio file.
Click on the audio channel or audio file you plan to embed on your website. Copy and paste the share link/embed code on your website.
You may also copy and paste the share link, to provide viewers of viewing and listening to the live stream audio content via any browser, or via Facebook or X (formerly Twitter).
Note: For now, we don’t have a specific player for audio content. You should put a fixed image or you will get a black background on your player. We’ll provide you with an audio player soon.
Note: For live streaming audio content the Dacast platform accepts mp3/wma/wav/aac/oog.
Uploading Audio Files via on-demand
Go to the Videos section and click on the Upload Video button at the far right side of the page.
You will then be redirected to the Upload Video section, for encoding recipe, since this is an audio file, it really should not matter as compared to uploading a video file. So choosing a standard recipe would be adequate.
Then if you are uploading one by one from your computer, the browse videos option would be the button to choose. If your paid Dacast plan has the bulk upload feature (either upload bulk files via S3 or GDrive), this would be the best option to choose (if you will upload several audio files).
Choose your audio file from your given directory.
Once the upload is finished you will see a notification indicating this.
You may refresh the page and go back to the videos section, click on the title of your newly uploaded audio file. Usually, it is titled RTMP stream 1 by default. Hence the general tab is at your disposal, for this section will enable you to make revisions/changes as you so wish.
Once changes/revisions are done. These will now be reflected in the videos section. Kindly refresh once more.
Note: For videos on demand, the only audio files the platform accepts are mp3 and ogg. aac/wma are unfortunately not supported for this section.
Highlight your audio through the playlist section
You can create a playlist dedicated to your audio. Your listeners will be able to listen easily to the content you regrouped. For example here, is a playlist dedicated to music:
Pretty much the same steps when creating an audio-only playlist for your uploaded audio content. First, click on the Create Playlist button on the playlists tab on your Dacast account.
Once you see the Create Playlist window, you may proceed to name the playlist. Click the Create button afterwards.
You will then automatically be redirected to the Setup tab of your Playlist. This section will give you access to the folders which you have created (several live and on-demand content compiled in specific folders you create) OR via contents (uploaded on-demand content via the videos section).
In the example below, we chose to just browse through the contents section and transfer the audio files we want for this playlist. Put a check on the name of the audio file and click on the right button. You may also drag the content from the left onto the right.
Use Expo to create unique pages and universes around your audio
First, you will need to create an expo.
Click on the “Asset selection” button, and choose the content. Scroll down the page a little and click the Save button afterwards.
You will now see the created expo page along with the files/content you have included. Please feel free to change the appearance of the expo page to your liking, as evidenced by the picture below. Customization will be fully reflected.
To fully see the finished product so to speak, your expo page can be viewed either via share links (any browser/Facebook/X), Iframe embed codes (for your website) OR a direct Dacast expo link.
We hope this guide gave you an insight into audio-only streaming and uploading them onto your Dacast account.
