Challenge

Wildlife Windows aims to do three main things using a grassroots streaming service :

– To observe and broadcast wildlife

– Offering a complete service to clients

– Educating all on the importance of wildlife conservation

Observing wildlife is rural by nature, and the animals don’t always want to pose for the camera. After confirming the animals will be at the location where a camera is proposed, Jason Fathers and his team then need to get all the equipment there. That can mean climbing trees, scaling cliffs, or delving underwater. The next part is to establish a connection to the Internet (wired or wireless). This part is particularly hard considering the remote locations wildlife tends to inhabit.

Solution

The main solutions that Dacast has been able to offer at Wildlife Windows that:

   – Affordable Live Streaming

   – Re-sellable Bandwidth

   – Great Customer Service

   – Affordable and Re-sellable Bandwidth

Once the camera has been set up, Jason’s work doesn’t stop there. Wildlife Windows not only install the cameras and the infrastructure for broadcasting, but they also provide their clients with the bandwidth necessary for live streaming. Jason tried a number of different CDN providers before he settled on Dacast for its affordability and good re-seller portal. “I haven’t looked much at alternatives over the last few years. No need to!”

Results

To sum up, the collaboration between Dacast and Wildlife Windows has resulted to British Wildlife being Made Accessible to all.

At any given point in the year, WildlifeWindows has 10-20 cameras installed in the United Kingdom. Many are seasonal, with most being installed just before the breeding season. However, other cameras broadcast 24/7, 365 days of a year, live streaming the natural world into visitor centres, websites, and homes.

To provide this quality of service, Wildlife Windows has climbed trees, abseiled down cliffs, and laid cables up to a mile long to find a connection to the Internet. These costs would be insurmountable without an affordable live-streaming service from Dacast. On top of that, “Dacast’s reselling model allowed Wildlife Windows to expand the service they can offer, letting us monetize the stream from our own site.

In summary, the result of the collaboration for Wildlife Windows :

   – Wildlife conservation projects able to attract a wider audience

   – The British Public can enjoy and learn about their wildlife
