Challenge

VideoHub aims to do three main things using a grassroots streaming service :

   – Online streaming

   – Monetize content

   – Finding an all-in-one-streaming solution

With a mission of reaching out to a wider target audience while gaining another source of revenue, online streaming is the missing piece to the puzzle. However, finding the perfect streaming platform is a bit of hard work. They needed a service that would enable them to stream live and on demand contents and charge the viewers for a reasonable price. This is where the Dacast solution comes into play.

Solution

Easy to Use and Self-contained

The main solutions that Dacast has been able to offer at VideoHub that:

– Built-in player Paywall

Content Delivery Network

Affordable platform

After shopping around for a streaming provider, Chris Morton heard from Dacast through an event production company that had used the service before. The feature that particularly seduced him was the possibility of monetizing the stream (an essential requirement for his business).

Thanks to Dacast’s paywall, Videohub can charge the viewer for the stream directly in the player. They can also choose between pay-per-view pricing and subscriptions. Not only Videohub can set up a price, but they can also offer various promotions: money discounts, percentage discounts, free passes or even gifts. Finally, the HTML5-compatible players and paywall allow the company to reach viewers through their mobile devices as well as on their computers.

Chris Morton, CEO says “The support that Dacast offers is particularly good compared to other streaming providers, making them a clear choice for my business”

We chose Dacast for the integrated pay-per-view options it provided, letting us monetize the stream from our own site.

In January 2014 only, Videohub attracted over 1,200 unique visitors and collected thousands from pay-per-view. According to Chris Morton, apart from the advantageous technical features offered, it is, in particular, the quality of the support provided that made him choose DaCast as its streaming provider and establish a productive business relationship that has been growing since December 2011.
