Challenge
The VE Day Memorial flyover saw 56 WWII military planes take off from Culpeper and Manassas Regional Airport. They would then cross the Potomac River and fly for Washington D.C., before completing their final rundown of the main mall, and passing over the Lincoln and WWII Memorials. The scale of the event was huge, but the potential number of viewers remained uncertain. The live stream would offer informative details of the planes and their history. Therefore it would not only appeal to those attending the main ceremony but also to anyone who could see the planes. The eyes of the capital were turning to the sky.
Solution
TV Worldwide (a veteran-owned company) has long since produced and hosted a Veteran’s Internet TV channel, (USVets.TV). So Dave knew the marketing for the event’s live stream was going well, but they had no idea just how successful the event would be. Initially, TV Worldwide expected 10,000-15,000 people at the memorial ceremony itself, with possibly 50,000 live viewers. The live stream started broadcasting at 10:30 am.
Every 5 Minutes their viewers increased by 500. After 11:30 am when the flyover began, this jumped up to 3,000 new viewers every 5 minutes. The live stream peaked at 117,000 viewers. More than twice TV Worldwide’s original expectations.
We got up to 117,000 simultaneously, at 1mba second each, without any problems whatsoever.
Results
“We got up to 117,000 simultaneously, at 1mba second each, without any problems whatsoever. ”
The VE Day Memorial flyover was a huge success, and the live webcast of the event provided hundreds of thousands of people with a fitting memorial.
Dave Gardy noted that the success was only possible with the strength of Dacast’s backbone, and the confidence we could offer with our excellent support.
Dacast has provided a streaming service for TV Worldwide for a long time now, and it’s wonderful to hear that we have been able to help Gardy with his most ambitious webcast.
About TV Worldwide
